A couple of tips:
1. All this runs on the iSeries NetServer, so be sure to configure that before you try to share folders.
2. Mapping a drive letter provides much better performance under Windows 2000 than using the UNC path. Having the iSeries username match the Windows 2000 username is helpful, but you can use the Connect As option to specify a different username in Windows 2000.
3. No hosts file is necessary, once you set up the folder to be shared you can map a drive letter by IP: \\192.168.1.1\qdls
4. You may want to make a static entry in DNS for the AS/400, and reference it by its name directly, rather than using a hosts file. This way you don't have to distribute a hosts file to everyone who needs to access the iSeries.
